But be careful, strawberries belong to foods that release histamines: by releasing histamine into the body, it causes, in people with a predisposition, the appearance of allergies, especially urticaria, which must be fought by accustoming the body to eating strawberries (of course, gradually… )! That is why it would be advisable to take strawberries from organic cultivation, and certainly wash them well in cold water and under a light stream before consumption. Also, special attention should be paid when buying imported strawberries, which with their “huge fruits” and intense red color indicate that they have been treated and processed.
Use value of strawberry
Spring and summer is the season of strawberries, because at the end of March, the first red, juicy, tempting strawberries arrive from the greenhouse, and they entice you all summer long with their fragrance, color and abundance of health. In addition to the wild forest strawberry, there are also numerous other cultivated species with large and variously shaped fruits, as well as garden strawberries – moonshine.
Strawberries are rarely prepared by cooking, unless you are preparing jam or marmalade. In the same way, you can also use wild strawberries, which are more refined and aromatic than cultivated strawberries.
You can buy strawberries in measuring cups or according to the desired weight in supermarkets and markets. When buying, pay attention to the following: they should have stems, and ripe, juicy and red fruits without white or green tops.
Store unwashed strawberries in the refrigerator for up to two days. You can also freeze washed strawberries by placing them in a single layer on a tray, sprinkling them with sugar and letting them freeze. Only then store them in plastic bags. Since the fruit contains a high percentage of water and sensitive aroma components, it is difficult to preserve them in this form.
