Fertilization of cucumbers

Fertilization of cucumbers is enhanced by using organic fertilizer on plots designated for cucumber cultivation. This not only provides essential nutrients but also ensures a favorable crumbly soil structure and optimal air and water capacity. Typically, 25 – 50 tons per hectare of manure is added to the soil.

The amount of mineral fertilizers applied during soil preparation depends on the cultivation method and the expected yield. For a yield of 10 tons, cucumbers typically utilize 50 kg of nitrogen (N), 16 kg of phosphorus (P2O5), 55 kg of potassium (K2O), and 10 kg of magnesium (MgO).

During soil preparation for sowing or planting, 400 kg/ha of NPK 5-20-30 + 26 SO3 or 500 kg/ha of NPK 7-14-21 + 2 MgO + 18 SO3, along with 200 kg/ha of Urea (46% N), are typically applied.

After every second or third harvest, cucumbers are fertilized foliarly. A 0.5% solution of Urea (46% N) is used while the leaves are still young, and a 1% solution is used when the leaves are fully developed. Additionally, Fertina P for vegetables can be used for foliar feeding at a concentration of 1-2%, with at least 2-3 treatments at 10-14 day intervals.

The necessary amount of phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium fertilizers should be added during soil preparation for sowing/planting. Nitrogen fertilizers should be applied in divided doses throughout the growing season, typically weekly. Fertilizers can also be administered through the irrigation system.
